All the events surrounding it are essential when you're interested in the automotive world. That's why events like the Los Angeles Auto Show, now known as Automobility, are so important.
This kind of show is an opportunity to discover what the future holds and current trends in the world of cars. While electrification is in full swing - no one doubts it - other vehicles are becoming just as popular.
Huyndai Ioniq5 N
Take the Ioniq5 N, which was unveiled in its North American version in California. It's electric, yes, but it relies above all on a resounding 641 hp (when using the N Grin Boost) to stand out from the crowd.
But that's one of the elements to which we must add a skidding mode (yes, pure drifting like in competition) thanks to its electronic controls called Roque Kick Drift and Drift Optimizer. Of course, many other technologies are on board, but you get the idea.
And to keep a firm grip on the ground, Hyundai's standard 21-inch wheels are shod with Pirelli PZero 275/35R21 summer tires.
Hyundai Santa Fe XRT
Forget the traditional Santa Fe, the new version arriving in March 2024 is totally different. Squarer, hybrid or not, but above all with a much more stylish design, has even created an XRT version geared towards off-roading.
The interior space is vast, with a hybrid engine as standard (thanks in particular to the small 4-cylinder 1.6 turbo) and a 4-cylinder 2.5 that powers the top-of-the-range versions. Everything has been revised and rethought.
A small detail: we even thought of adding a handle to the top of the rear tire, integrated into the bodywork. The aim is to allow anyone, including the author of these lines, to pull himself up to the roof by grabbing hold and using the tire for support.
A third row will be offered as an option.
Genesis GV80 and GV 80 coupe
Two SUVs with undeniable qualities, redesigned styling and highly efficient powertrains. The GV80's silhouette has been reworked, and the interior has been redesigned. At the front, the headlamps have been updated, but it's mainly inside that the changes are apparent, with the instrument cluster in front of the driver and the multimedia system screen integrated into a single 27-inch-wide unit.
Don't look for changes under the hood. There are still two options: the GV80 is powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine developing 300 hp or a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 delivering 375 hp.
As for the GV80 Coupé, unveiled in Asia a few weeks ago, it will appear on our roads next year. Of course, it features the same interior as the GV80 and a more dynamic silhouette. The real find: it uses the twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre engine powered by a 48V electric compressor; power is rated at 409 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque.
Toyota Crown Signia
A wagon-like vehicle that combines the capabilities of a small SUV with a hybrid powertrain. It will likely replace the less popular Venza in Toyota's line-up.
Kia EV3
A small electric vehicle, this SUV with modern lines, will enter our market next year. A sportier version, the EV4, will accompany it. Canadian specifications, however, are still unknown.
Lucid Gravity
You'll indeed have to invest some US$80,000 to get it, but Lucid's electric SUV promises 708 kilometres of range, seven passengers and a towing capacity of 6,000 pounds. The star of the show, without a doubt.
Subaru Forester
With a slightly reworked front end, a new interior and the announcement of a forthcoming hybrid version, the Forester doesn't represent a new generation but a new version.
The Los Angeles Auto Show doesn't have the same scope as it used to. But it's still a must for enthusiasts.
