The e.PRIMACY, or how Michelin is going to save the planet!

It is well known that innovation and technology are at the center of tire manufacturers’ priorities. However, for a few years now, respect for the environment has also been added to this list. Adding additives to make the rubber stronger and less polluting and reducing rolling resistance are two examples of effective methods, but these methods cannot reduce a tire’s carbon emissions to zero. This November, Michelin announced its new way of doing things: discover the Michelin e.PRIMACY concept, the first tire to be neutral in its emissions.

Michelin has long since made its entry into the world of ecological tires. Since the early 1990s, the manufacturer has been producing tire varieties that specialize in reducing rolling resistance. This time, Michelin has taken the concept to the extreme by creating a product that is emission neutral from the collection of its materials to its construction and installation.

To do so, the company first chose the path of recycling and reuse, but that’s not all. While this helps reduce the product’s environmental impact, Michelin has taken a proactive approach to make it completely neutral. By planting trees and installing more energy-efficient industrial equipment, the company is making a real difference for the planet! Michelin has even already planned for the end of life of its new tire. In partnership with recycling companies, the company will ensure that all possible materials are fully reused.

Environment, yes, but also performance and savings

While it is true that the company expects significant fuel savings of nearly one-fifth of a liter per 100 km, this does not mean that it has skimped on their performance! Although they’re not the strongest or the most grippy tires – that’s not their goal – their technology still gives them several advantages. Its rubber, reinforced with a polymer specifically developed for the occasion, is extremely elastic. Its Energy AirShield layer and CoolRunning sidewalls absorb shocks and make your rubber last even longer.

So on wet and dry roads, the new e.PRIMACY concept looks very similar in terms of grip, but is the technology worth the price? Unfortunately, it’s hard to say since we don’t yet know the price or even the release date of these new tires. However, one thing is certain: they could save you a lot of money on your gas bill! This 0.2L/100km can translate into a few hundred dollars over the life of the tire and you will be happy to see your range increase!
